Register NowEffective cueing is important not only to ensure proper form and alignment, but also to create an atmosphere within a class. In yoga, the use of language is especially important, and sometimes creates a challenge for instructors used to cueing higher intensity classes. This workshop will discuss the importance of effective cueing, the use of action and descriptive verbiage, and how to create different atmospheres and mindsets within a class.

Register NowFacilitating a healthy fascia is a trending focus for many fitness professionals. But in what ways – if any – is the fascial system affected by a yoga practice? This one-hour workshop will provide a review of what we know of the fascia with current research, and discuss how yoga can enhance functionality of not just specific muscles and joints, but kinetic chains through targeting the fascia that interconnects the body.

This 2-hour continuing education presentation is designed for yoga teachers, group fitness instructors, and personal trainers who seek to integrate mental health principles into their movement-based practices. Participants will explore how yoga and fitness support nervous system regulation and emotional resilience, with a focus on breathwork, trauma-informed language, and inclusive cueing. The session includes evidence-based strategies for designing movement experiences that promote emotional regulation and mental wellness in both group and individual settings. Practical applications and case examples will be provided to support implementation within the scope of practice.

Presenter: Mikki Johnson is a mental health professional with over 39 years in the fitness and wellness industry. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology from St. Mary’s University and is currently serving as a post-master’s clinical fellow. Mikki is a NETA-Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, as well as a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500). Based in Minneapolis, MN, Mikki integrates movement, breath, and psychotherapy to support nervous system regulation and emotional well-being.

Register NowYoga practice has long been recognized as a means of improving mindfulness, but the benefits of yoga on the brain extend beyond a mind-body connection. A growing body of research points to yoga as a means of enhancing mental clarity and focus; increasing cognitive function; and improving attention, memory, and overall cognitive processing. Further, yoga has been shown to improve executive function and working memory in older adults and support neuroplasticity and brain health in aging individuals. This three-hour workshop will dive into the research surrounding yoga and cognitive function, identifying specific practices that may be incorporated into class programming to support the brain health of participants of all ages and stages of life.

Register NowNETA’s intensive Yoga Foundations blended learning specialty certification includes a two components: a self-paced online module and a live instructor-led clinic. Participants must complete the Yoga Foundations online module prior to attending the live, 6-hour pose clinic.
The online module provides a practical and interactive experience in teaching beginner yoga formats through learning the basics of class formatting, yoga history and exploration of the 8 limbs, anatomy and physiology of the nervous and respiratory systems, and how to encourage and motivate your participants through verbal refinements and inclusive cuing. The required pose clinic breaks down 20 foundational poses, focusing on alignment, safety, variations, and breathing, equipping participants to sequence and lead a beginning-level yoga class.
This specialty certification will provide two sample beginning yoga classes as well as time for practice all led by an experienced yoga teacher. Yoga Foundations is the first required course for NETA’s 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program or it can be taken as a stand-alone Specialty Certification.
Please note that BOTH the 14-hour Yoga Foundations online module AND the 6-hour Yoga Foundations pose clinic must be completed, along with an open-note online exam in order to receive the specialty certificate and 20 continuing education credits.

Register NowRestorative yoga is a way to experience true relaxation. As stress and tension are released, healing and upliftment are promoted in body, mind, and spirit. In this workshop, participants will learn a series of restorative yoga poses, modifications and prop variations needed for students with special conditions. NETA’s Senior Yoga Certification will prepare instructors to lead dynamic, yet safe yoga classes for an aging population. This three-hour workshop offers a holistic approach to supporting women through the menopause transition, using the ancient wisdom of yoga and the koshas-the five layers of being. Participants will explore how menopause affects each kosha, including the physical, energetic, mental, wisdom, and bliss bodies. In menopause yoga, we will use asana, breath work, meditation, and self-inquiry to learn how to balance and nurture ourselves.

NETA’s Kids Yoga workshop is a fun, interactive and educational experience. This kids’ yoga training is designed to help yoga teachers and fitness professionals create an easy bridge to adapting classes to a younger audience. Register NowIt’s estimated that one-third of participants in a mainstream yoga class have experienced significant trauma. In this workshop, yoga’s effects on the autonomic nervous system will be examined, as well as recommended practices and contraindicated positions. Register NowLong hours, heavy workloads, job insecurity, and conflicts with co-workers are all factors of increased stress in the workplace, leading to physical manifestations of pain and chronic disease, and cognitive, social, and emotional burnout. Yoga practices can aid in alleviating the signs and symptoms of workplace stress, while equipping the individual to better deal with the day-to-day stressors themselves. This workshop will identify specific elements of yoga to alleviate and deal with stress; workplace-friendly practices to be done individually or as a group; and strategies for marketing oneself in a corporate setting.
