Senior Yoga Specialty Certification
NETA’s Senior Yoga Certification will prepare instructors to lead dynamic, yet safe yoga classes for an aging population and those with physical limitations. Participants will discuss the physical, physiological, and psychological effects of aging, as well as the benefits of a chair-based practice for older adults. An understanding of common chronic conditions and physical limitations and how to identify them will be explained, along with what types of modifications may be necessary.
Participants will spend ample time in hands-on practice of adapting poses to a chair-based practice, learning how to address each element of a traditional vinyasa-style yoga with appropriate progressions to create a cohesive class. A break-down of modified sun-salutations and an additional 18 poses and flows provide participants with the opportunity to experience and practice teach off-the-floor classes appropriate for all levels. Learn how to use props to make poses accessible for all, leaving participants feeling successful with their practice. Yoga for stress reduction and mindfulness techniques will be addressed.
This senior yoga specialty certification will provide two sample yoga classes for participants to experience different formatting and teaching styles, as well as ample time for practice teaching under the supervision of an experienced yoga teacher. Upon completion of the two-day Senior Yoga workshop, participants are equipped to create and lead their very own chair-based practice.
Senior Yoga can be taken as a stand-alone specialty certification to achieve your yoga instructor certification and teach chair-based yoga classes and/or can be taken as part of NETA’s 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program.
