Yoga for Special Populations Specialty Certification
Yoga is for everybody. NETA’s ten-hour, one-day Yoga for Special Populations Specialty Certification workshop provides instructors with an in-depth look at how to assist every individual in meeting their goal in a group setting through a coaching approach. An introduction to special populations including cancer patients; those with chronic conditions, musculoskeletal or mobility limitations; older adults; overweight or obese; and pre- or postnatal participants is provided, addressing potential considerations for each demographic.
Participants will be guided in finding their own purpose for teaching and challenged to identity potential sources of prejudice in their community and perhaps classes. The power of communication and the impact of one’s message will be discussed with real-world examples and opportunity for self-reflection. Yoga instructors will learn how to enhance their communication skills to create an inclusive class and to align their instruction with yoga values. Behavior change and coaching techniques will be introduced to expand the instructor’s impact beyond the mat.
This yoga specialty certification will provide an introduction to the benefits of a yoga practice for individuals dealing with trauma, with tips on leading a practice that contributes to the sense of safety and comfort for participants. Participants will have the opportunity to identify specific ways in which they can better reach all who attend their classes with practice teaching under the supervision of an experienced yoga instructor.
It is highly recommended to take NETA’s Yoga Foundations Specialty Certification first; Yoga for Special Populations is a stand-alone specialty certification designed to enhance your yoga outreach and is also part of NETA’s 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program.
